Porsche Speedster
Typ 540: Celebration of an Icon A
book of photographs by Hal Thoms, Roy Dryer, and Jerry
Nelson, with text by Owen Edwards and Steve Heinrichs,
and forward by Rolf Sprenger
If a $110 book on a Porsche event seems like a lot
of money for a questionable subject, know that you're
thinking the same way we were - until we got our
copy of Speedster 50th Anniversary: Celebration
of an Icon… Just as watching a race or big game
on TV can be better than "being there",
this book lets you experience more of the event
than you might have had you been present… from a
recreated Pebble Beach circuit to the manicured
lawns of Pebble Beach to Laguna Seca's Corkscrew…
the book comes as close to putting you at the party
as possible.

Pete
Stout, Excellence
…just as Steve Heinrichs carried
off the Speedster celebration, he has produced a
magnificent book in 256 pages (325 photos) chronicling
the event. It's large (12" x 10"), lushly
colored, and has exquisite photographs… If
you attended you will want a copy for remembrance
and if you didn't, you will need a copy to see what
you missed. ____
Bill Block, The 356 Registry
The text is short but thorough,
and the photos tell the story, with (it seems to
me) just about every Speedster that was there being
shown somewhere in the book… Thoms, Dreyer and Nelson
have managed to capture the mood of the weekend
by mixing cars, people and the incomparable backdrop
of Monterey and Carmel. This is a book filled with
lovely images, expertly combined with evocative
text. ____
Gordon Maltby The
photography – the entire book for that matter – is accomplished by people who
know their craft. The images are lovely
to look at. The paper used reproduces the images well and is nice to the touch
and eye. The pages are artfully designed.
The photo captions are a special treat because most identify the car by
its own special identifier, its chassis number. ____ Auto Aficionado
